How do you get from my address to an answer?
You type the address; we calculate road and rail noise for that property from national data and explain it in plain English — a Screening report arrives in seconds.

Your address
Type a postcode or a full address. AcoustaPLOT locates the property, and every road and railway line within range that could affect it.Source: OS · OSM · Mapbox - 02
What's around it
For each road, the national DfT traffic counts; for railways, Defra's noise mapping wherever it covers the property; and, for Barrier Design, real elevation data for the ground between the source and your home.Source: DfT AADFSource: Defra END - 03
The calculation
Road noise is calculated by AcoustaPLOT from the traffic data using our own CRTN-based methodology — Defra's road bands are never used as the reported road figure. Barrier designs use ISO 9613-2. The result is worked out for your property, not read off a zone. The full method →Source: CRTN 1988Source: ISO 9613-2 - 04
A plain-English report
One of seven risk bands from LOW to SEVERE, your day and night levels (Lden and Lnight), an indoor estimate against BS 8233, what it all means for living there, the assumptions made, the uncertainty, and what's worth doing next.Source: BS 8233Source: Seven risk bands

Same engine. Four depths of answer.

A calculated estimate — not a measurement, and not a consultant.
- Automated and modelled — produced by our software from national datasets, not measured at your property.
- No site visit and no individual human review of your report.
- Every report states its uncertainty range. Figures are estimates within that range.
- Not suitable as the sole or primary evidence for a planning application or appeal, legal proceedings, an insurance claim, or anything else needing a precise measured level.
- In a purchase or price negotiation it is supporting context for your own decision — not a valuation, and not a measured figure the other side has to accept.
The full technical method is on the Methodology page, the standards behind each figure on Standards & compliance, and the measured route on Measured Survey.
Where the numbers come from
National datasets and the standard UK methods — named in every report, next to the figure they produced.
Modelled from national datasets with the standard UK methods — and labelled as modelled, always.
Questions about the process
How long does it take?
Screening reports are generated and delivered instantly after payment — typically within 10–15 seconds. Barrier Design reports take slightly longer as they involve detailed terrain and property geometry calculations — typically 1–3 minutes.
Does anyone visit the property?
No. Every report is automated and modelled — produced by our software from national datasets, with no site visit and no individual human review. That's what makes it fast and affordable, and it's why every report states its uncertainty and its limits.
What if the national data doesn't cover my address?
Where a dataset doesn't reach your property, the report says what it assumed instead, so you can see exactly what the figure rests on.
Is the road figure taken from Defra's noise maps?
No. Road noise is AcoustaPLOT's own CRTN-based calculation from DfT traffic counts. Defra's mapping is used directly for rail, wherever a property falls within its coverage.
Can I see what a report looks like first?
Yes — the sample report shows a full report for a fictional property, with illustrative figures, so you can see exactly what you'd get before paying.
